8.7.1 - Adium 0.85
Adium is a powerful and very, very engaging IM client for Mac OSX.
Features: Tabbed or multi-window conversations, highly skinnable and configurable, multiple IM protocol support, beautiful (and configurable) message presentation, more.
When I first got my Mini, I tried Apple's IM client, but was put off by the lack of support for talking to 90% of the world — that is, Microsoft IM clients. So off I went, trying one program after another. Suffice it to say that after digging through several others and honestly trying to like them, I settled on Adium. Out of the gate, it's pretty cute, which is nice. It's also highly functional, which is even better. But then you will start to play with the various configuration options, and pretty soon, you're not just happy, you're downright enthralled. Like a lot of people, an IM client isn't "optional" for me. I have to have one, and I need it to be reliable and powerful. Adium steps up to the plate and does the job, plus I just outright like it.
Adium is free. Donation recommended.
Five out of five stars.
