5.2 - New York Pizza to go... Anywhere!

OK, so I'm complaining about not having NY style pizza, as usual, and I see this thing on digg.com that talks about being able to buy Chicago-style pizza, have it shipped FedEx, and there you are. Hmmm. Maybe there's a NY version of this? As it turns out, the answer is yes! At $19.95 for an 18-inch NY pizza, flown in by FedEx 2-day, it seems far too good to be true. But I'm no fainting wallflower. I whips out the old credit card, calls the 800 number and tells 'em to show me what they got — gimme two of 'em!

I ordered late afternoon (Mountain time) on Tuesday, and FedEx and Flying Pizzas got it to me here in Montana on Thursday, in time for my chess night, when friends come over and we do video games, chess, movies and so on. I was duly impressed. The box containing two pizzas arrived at work about noon and I had to stare at it all blinking day. That was tough.

So, I take it home at five, and you know I can't just expose my friends to this without knowing what it tastes like, right? I mean, come on, these are my friends! So, I opens one of the pizzas for a test, see? Yeah, that's it... A test! I'm just... gonna... test... it. Yeah.

Arrival

This is what you get. A box containing a plastic bag that has 8 huge slices in it. The slices are separated by wax paper. Very nice.

Extraction

Removing a couple of them, they look like this. They're cooked already, but even so they still need to go into an oven for the proper experience. But they smell awesome already.

Oven of Doom

So, you preheat the oven to 500 degrees (no, really, 500F!)

Melty ooey-gooey goodness

Then you cook for four or five minutes, until you see proper cheesy bubbling and you begin to drool (it smells fabulous at this point, I might add.) You can tell my hands were shaking. Without the flash, I had nuthin. Sorry about that.

Plates of Pure Joy

Whereupon you remove the pizza from the oven, and this is what you get. And it is good. Really, really good. Outstanding. Mmmph. (chewing noises ensue.) After tasting, I added a tiny bit of garlic salt, and that made it just perfect. Highly, highly recommended.
